One Dollar Bill

There are 15 things you never noticed on a dollar. I took one dollar bill from my husband's wallet and look closely on it and return the dollar bill back. I read the article at Yahoo's Manage Your Life article. Read on!

Pull a buck from your wallet now and prepare to be amazed.

We’re serious. Did you know a dollar bill has hidden pictures, flecks of color, and mysterious symbols? And that’s just the beginning. What do all those seemingly random letters and Latin phrases mean, anyway?

The Basics: How much is a dollar worth?

The question seems simple, but the answer is quite complex. Since 1973, the dollar bill has had no value tied to it. You cannot trade in a dollar to the government for gold, silver, or any other commodity. The value of the nation's currency is related to the decree by the government that a dollar is legal tender for all debts. This means if someone attempts to pay a debt using dollars, the person being paid must accept the money or the law no longer recognizes the debt. This is important enough that the phrase is printed on every bill the government creates.

It is also vital for the nation's citizens to agree that the bills have value. If the members of a society decided that they did not believe in the currency, it would quickly be worth no more than the paper it is printed on. For the record, each bill costs the government 6.4 cents to print.

What kind of paper are the bills made from?

Bills are made from a blend of linen and cotton, which is why they don't fall apart in the wash the way paper does. If you look closely, you can see red and blue silk fibers woven throughout the bill. The threads are thought to be an anti-counterfeit measure.

Hint: Look in the white spaces on the face of the bill for little bits of the colored thread. They look like lint but you can't scratch them off!

On the face of a dollar, what does the letter inside the circular seal mean?

The black seal with the big letter in the middle signifies the Federal Reserve bank that placed the order for the bill. A = Boston, B = New York City, C = Philadelphia, D = Cleveland, E = Richmond, Va., F = Atlanta, G = Chicago, H = St. Louis, I = Minneapolis, J = Kansas City, K = Dallas.

The letter also corresponds to the black number that is repeated four times on the face of the bill. For example, if you have a bill from Dallas with the letter K, then the number on the bill will be 11 because K is the eleventh letter in the alphabet.

Can you find any tiny owls or spiders hidden on the front of the bill?

Many people believe they can see a tiny owl (some say it is a spider) next to the large "1" on the upper right of the bill. If you look at the shield shape that surrounds that "1," the tiny owl rests on the top left corner.

More than likely, the markings are nothing, just a point where the webbed design of the border varies. That won't stop some people from associating the peculiar detail with Masonic symbols, or with more practical things, like anti-counterfeit measures.

The Great Seal of the United States

The green back of the dollar bill features the two sides of The Great Seal of the United States. The founding fathers approved its design in 1782. Ben Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson all had a hand in devising it. The seal provides great insight into the values of the newborn nation and, like the Constitution, provides a direct link to its formative days.

What does Annuit Coeptis mean?

The first of three Latin phrases on the back of the bill is translated as "God has favored our undertakings." Many founders, Franklin and George Washington among them, believed that God's will was behind the successful creation of the United States.

Beneath the pyramid, what does Novus Ordo Seclorum mean?

These Latin words mean "New order of the ages." Charles Thomson, a statesman involved in the design of The Great Seal of the United States, proposed the phrase to signify the beginning of what he called "the new American Era," which he said began in 1776 with the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Why is MDCCLXXVI on the bottom of the pyramid?

The letters are Roman numerals for 1776. M is 1,000, D is 500, CC is 200, L is 50, XX is 20, VI is 6. Add the numerals on the pyramid together and you get the year 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed, and when the Novus Ordo Seclorum began.

Why is there an unfinished pyramid with a glowing eye?

Thomson explained the sturdy pyramid as a symbol of "strength and duration". He did not explain its unfinished state, but many believe it signified that our nation remained unfinished. The pyramid also stops at 13 steps, the number of the original colonies.

The "Eye of Providence" is a visual representation of the words Annuit Coeptis, and reinforces the founders' notion that God looked upon the endeavor of the new nation with favor. Many theorists mistakenly believe the symbolism of the eye is related to the Freemasons (a secret society whose members believed they were under the careful scrutiny of God), but the symbolism of the glowing eye is far older than any Freemason thinking. Scholars have traced versions of the symbol as far back as the ancient Egyptians.

What does E Pluribus Unum mean?

"Out of many, one." The 13 disparate colonies came together to form one nation.

Why a bald eagle? The founders wanted an animal native to America to be the new nation's symbol. In its talons the eagle holds arrows and olive branches, signifying war and peace.

Fun activities you and the kids can do with a dollar bill

Track your bills. Go to the website Where's George? and enter the serial number of the bill. If the bill has been in circulation long enough, you might be able to see where your bill has been as it travels from wallets to registers and back. After you enter your bills, check back later to see where they have gone.

Play dollar-bill poker. Each of you takes a dollar bill and examines the green serial numbers as if they were a hand of playing cards. Make your best poker hand and see who wins.

Winter Travel in Texas

Barbecue in Texas!

Met Analyn through Ivy Sterling

My husband and I drove to Texas to spend the remaining months of the winter time. You see, after spending three months in Hawaii, we didn't spend a week in North Dakota. Instead, we decided to escape the cold winter from where we live. It is just too much for me and my husband. We love to go out once in a while and we can do that here. I was happy to see how people wear something nice and comfortable during the winter time here in Texas. I can even wear my summer clothes!

The Meyer's couple

Analyn and Me

For one week and five days we've been here, we have learned our way around. Plus, we meet a couple last Wednesday and we had so much fun! If ever we will move here in Texas, I know I already have someone that I know and would be my shopping buddy. How cool is that? Looking forward for more meetings and enjoy Filipino food with her.

What's Your Winter Sense?

Your Winter Sense is Touch

It may sound crazy to love the feel of winter,
but you're not exactly thinking of the feel of extreme cold on your skin.

Instead, you like the feel of warmth,
especially when it's paired with a super cold day.

There's nothing like the feel of a fire in a cold room,
or the touch of your favorite blanket.

You even love the way snowflakes feel on your face,
as long as you have a warm home waiting for you.

The Perfect Shower

Growing up without a shower was a memorable experience for me. I grew up taking a bath using a bucket. All we have to do before was fill up the bucket with water and use "tabo" (a water dipper usually made of plastic, is an example of such a material object, with many functions and meanings.) Then, I moved in the United States wherein it's a totally different world for me. Everything is fantastic! From dishwasher, washer and dryer and the bath tub with showers in it. It is way cool than I have ever expected. I am spoiled for over two years enjoying the showers!

I am thinking about renovating our shower room and upgrade everything. I want to have a wonderful shower room that my husband and I can enjoy. A nice mira shower can make all the difference in the shower room. I believe that getting a perfect shower can have a nice and refreshing bath. I will also make sure that if ever we will buy a house, we have a nice shower for us to enjoy. Maybe I can start browsing cheap mira showers online to get things ready. I know my husband will like it especially if we have the mira thermostatic showers. I bet, I couldn't get him out of the shower room because he's having fun with it. I can't wait to finally get a new house!

Wheat: Farm-To-Fork Experience

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Wheat Food Council. All opinions are 100% mine.

I live in North Dakota and our place is surrounded with a very great in size farm owned by our neighbor. During the early spring time, they will plant wheat which is the most consumed grain in America. Wheat goes through an amazing journey from the time its seed is planted until it appears on your plate. Once it is consumed, wheat energizes the body, delivering essential nutrients to its cells. Wheat’s work is never done.

Have you heard about How Wheat Works? There is an interactive program that you can plant, harvest, mill, bake and virtually eat your wheat. First, you have to register and choose the wheat product you want to create and track its path from the wheat field to the table. This is really cool! I have tried this game last month and I choose the Durum wheat since I am a pasta lover.

Come join the fun! Everybody is enjoying the virtual game! You can actually get good recipes on each wheat product you selected and they seem delicious! The Wheat Foods Council will donate two (2) pounds of flour, up to 90,000 pounds to Operation Homefront, a non-profit that provides assistance to needy U.S troops and their families. This will help thousands of families that will provide them nutritious foods. The donation is made possible by the members at ADM and ConAgra Mills, two of the world's largest millers. They are extending this program to the youth. Visit www.wheatfoods.org for more information.

Thursday Challenge: Free-For-All #2

Thursday Challenge is a place for photographic fun and learning. A theme is announced on this site each week.

Week #2

My husband and I loves to spend our time together somewhere special. We spent our Christmas and New Year here in Hawaii. First time to be away from home since we got married. It was a wonderful feeling because we are together celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. I am looking forward for more of our special vacations. I am getting excited about it.

Love For Music

I have to learned to love music when I was in grade school. I can still remember my teacher when I was in grade 5. She teaches us a new song every other week. I like it all. I felt that I am shining like a star just by learning the songs she teach us. When I went to high school, I had classmates and schoolmates who knows how to play a musical instrument. They can play a guitar, piano, drums and violin. I was jealous! Sure I can sing, but I would love to play an instrument too just like the gifted ones.

If only I have the passion in learning how to play an instrument, it would be much better for me as I can play along anytime I want to. I guess it is not yet too late for me. All I need is a little courage, passion and my determination to learn how to play. Maybe I should start enrolling to piano lessons this coming spring or summer time to fulfill my dreams. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it! Wish me luck!

Wardrobe Wednesday: Scuba Suit

Looking fabulous in a new outfit? Post it on Wardrobe Wednesday. See a strangely dressed person on the street? Snap a photo and post it (be kind about identity, please). Are you stalking a new dress at the mall? Photograph the mannequin and load it up! Celebrate funky socks, ratty sweats and ball gowns with equal affection.

We went to Panglao Island, Bohol to celebrate our Valentine's Day for a week. My husband and I had so much in Bohol. We went snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming and sight-seeing. It was a wonderful week we had together before he headed back to the US to work on something.

Weight Journey

When I was a kid, I didn't mind about losing weight or put myself into a diet. Everything I desire to eat, I go for it. My cousins and playmates always teased me how fat I am. I didn't notice that I am gaining weight maybe because I am energetic. I am always on the go - I run, walk and play. I am not really conscious about gaining weight or about feeling good about myself. I like to eat and eat.

Then I realized something when I was in college. Everyone in my university looks good and thin. I want to be like them. I always tell myself this phrase - "Thin is always in, Stout is always out!" So I made up my mind that I will work hard on losing weight. I noticed some difference every year. I still eat but in a healthy way. The weight loss commercial in the TV helps me realized about feeling great for myself. For some people who want to live smart and healthy, check out bariatric surgery houston. It will give you an idea on how you lose the unwanted weight you had. It is time to feel great again!

Blue Car in Hawaii

When we came here in Hawaii two months, and 1 week ago, one of our goals is to get a used car to get by around town. Hawaii has eight beautiful islands and we live in Hilo in the Big Island where my husband really loves to stay for the winter. There are many things to see around the Big Island. For those who are adventurer like us, you will experience wonderful things and get good food all over the island. What I like most about it? When we plan our trip the next day to look for a nice sandy beach where we could go swimming and snorkeling.

Our blue car in Hawaii

We are planning to sell our car here in Hawaii. We will go back to the mainland soon and we don't want to store the car and nobody will take care of it when we are gone. Besides, it may take a long time before we can go back for a vacation here in Hawaii if we have the greens to support our needs. Anyway, for those car owners who are living at Irvine, California, you might want to check body shop irvine for your auto repairs. You can make an appointment online if you need your car to be fixed.

Here are the pretty ladies! Taken at Wellah's place (the one wearing yellow dress) when she hosted a jewelry party! We had so much fun. The food was great and their company was amazing! I miss them!

Cruiser Bikes

My newly found friend who got married last summer of 2009 enjoyed her weekly trip with her husband. Her husband got his own motorcycle, so whenever they get bored staying home, they can easily get out of the house with few things pack and off they go.

They have been to a lot of places since she came here. It was nice to know that both of them are enjoying their time in the stage of their honeymoon. The photo above was taken on one of their trips. Her husband took this photo while she's waiting in vain. I think she look cute here. It would be nice if they have a new Memphis Shades for their motorcycle to improve the look of the motorcycle. For sure, it will add a little class in the motorcycle.

Straight Out Of The Camera Sunday

What are the rules? On any Sunday you can post any photo you like (it must be one of your own) that hasn’t been tweaked or altered in any way (cropping is OK). In other words Straight Out Of the Camera. You can also link back to Murrieta365. Happy Sunday!

Taken at the park fronting the Hilo Bay. My husband and I always go for a walk every morning or in the afternoon everyday. It feels good when you sweat a little and you know you are doing something to loose the excess fats stored in our body. It's a great feeling to finally wear something nice because you know you look good at it. Happy Sunday!

Print Pictures

I have been checking my Multiply account lately to browse some pictures that I have seen for a long time. I didn't know that I have a lot. When I first came here in the US, I took a lot of pictures everywhere we go. I don't leave the house without my camera because I know I don't want to miss any single moment of my married life. I love it and I love being in the picture.

Then, after our two weeks road trip from the northwest, my computer crashed and couldn't retrieve any photos that we took from our trip. It was devastating! Luckily, I was able to print some of the photos we took while we were in Montana, South Dakota and Colorado. I spent about $150 to buy the ink for my printer. I have to print some of my pictures that I took recently, but the ink are just so expensive. I wish someone will give me Free Printer Cartridges or maybe that offers 50% so I can afford to print all my photos and put them in my album.
