Celebrate the Good Times

zwani.com myspace graphic comments

Put on your hat because it is time to celebrate! For the coming year of 2009. I welcome it with so much dreams and filled with joy. I don't want to make any New Year's resolution as I am bad following it. But I am thinking of improving myself, become more productive and embrace all the challenges that will come my way.

I thank God for the good health and wonderful blessing He showered me for the past years. I am so grateful for everything. This New Year, show some love and be a blessing to other people. Take time to contemplate on so many things. I wish everyone a wonderful New Year!

Expired Tooth

I have had a dentist appointment for 2 consecutive days. But all they have to do is to check my tooth, the x-ray to see if there's an infection (and there was!) and give me prescription medicines that I am going to take for a week. My dentist said, they have to call me after a week and will check on how I am doing. I have been suffering from pain for over a week now. I just can't take it anymore. I have been taking my medicines regularly to stop feeling the pain.

I have been thinking about 3 options. I can have a major procedure which is the root canal, tooth implant or if I want my tooth to be taken out completely. I know it will cost me a fortune. Besides, my health insurance will not cover my dental procedures. It is not cool at all. I am contemplating on getting a pearly white dentures so that I will never ever feel the pain again. Am I ready for it?

To See is To Believe!

The husband has been complaining about how ugly and worn his prescription eyeglasses. I guess it is time to change and buy a new one that is suitable for him. Just recently, I went to visit the site of my beautiful friend - Noryfel. She posted a picture wearing her new and affordable pair of eyeglasses from Zenni Optical. I did not know she has been wearing eyeglasses until I read her post about the prescription glasses she got. She said that she would order more pair of glasses in the future because the frames and quality of the eyeglasses impressed her.

You can never go wrong at Zenni Optical. You can choose from their wide variety of Holiday frames online. They are colorful and stylish. They offer stainless steel, monel steel alloy, memory titanium, pure titanium, plastic or acetate and aluminum full or half rim frame, In fact, I already pick my favorite pair of frames that will look good on me and appropriate to my facial size. Therefore, if you are looking for a fashionable, nice and cool prescription eyeglasses, visit Zenni Optical's website now and believe to their high quality product at a reasonable and affordable price. Seeing is believing!

My Blog's New Look

I can't believe it! Until now, I just can't imagine about the new look of my blog. From a very dull polka dots layout to a fabulous and glamorous layout! I am just so happy to let everybody know about my blog makeover. My other blog - A Place of Reflection got a makeover too. There's no need to be jealous with the other bloggers who have nice blog layout. I got my own unique design. I told Ivy - The Designer's Chic, what I want for the design of the header , the colors and how my blog will look like. She carefully manage everything including my demands. I really appreciate all her work. She did a very good job designing my blogs. Thank you girl for a job well done!

Single and Fabulous

I know that some of you have best friends to call. I do too. It may take longer time before you and your best friend will have a connection but it will be worth it. Building a wonderful friendship is not an easy task. It will take time before you will understand the true concept and meaning of real friendship. You will have to consider being trustworthy, honest, understanding, loving and caring. For me, the real meaning of friendship is accepting the person no matter who she is or what she do without any prejudices.

It was the year 1999 when I met someone who became my wonderful friend. Of course, there's always a first impression until you get to know the person. She's very decisive. What you see is what you get. She can be very loud sometimes but that's fine with me as I can be loud too. She's a person with a strong determination and to top it all, she's a very demanding person! She's really organize and neat with all her things and that's what I like about her. I think I know everything about her. I know her favorite color, favorite food, favorite brand for purse and I also know her sorrows.

She know that she can be bitchy sometimes if someone will provoke her. She's been my good friend for 9 years and counting. Our friendship has been tested through the years. It is not really hard to please her. Just be yourself and eventually, you will get her trust, love and honesty. I miss her company. I miss spending time with her.

Note: This is not a paid post. But I accept complimentary gift(s).

Freezing Christmas

On the day of Christmas, hubby Winn planned a Christmas getaway. We went to Devil's Lake, which is north from our town and about 100 miles from our house. As we were driving going to the lake, we have seen some poor pheasants looking for some food in the cornfield. The cold wind was blowing onto my face and I can really feel how cold it was that day. We drove downtown Devil's Lake. All business establishments were closed as they celebrate also for the Christmas day.

We drove on a frozen lake. Driving on a frozen lake was a little bit scary. I was thinking that the ice will break and will go under the ice. Imagine, my husband's truck is heavy and I don't think I can swim in very cold water. We met some people who enjoyed ice fishing. After driving on a frozen lake, we went to Spirit Lake Casino and Resort to grab something to eat. They serve a buffet inside the casino. I lost a buck playing the slot machine. Pretty much, we did enjoy our simple Christmas getaway. We had fun and stuffed!

Hubby List Tag

Until today, I can still remember how I met my husband. It may be funny, wonderful and unique as I call it on how everything started with a single word called LOVE. Jerlalou and Donabel forwarded me a tag. Thank you girls for remembering me.

Winn and Me at Disneyland, Hong Kong
  • Can you remember the day you first met your hubby? Certainly!
  • When was that? (doesn't have to be specific) September 13, 2006 at 11:08 PM
  • First impression. Too old for me, sweet and definitely a very nice man
  • Were you attracted to him? Yes, I like him being more matured.
  • Were you friends before he became your bf? Yes, in the state of calling and writing each other.
  • What was the sweetest thing he did for you? When he brought me, my mom and my 2 sisters for a 3-day cold getaway in Hong Kong last December 2006
  • What are the things about him that you are thankful for? I am thankful for him for being so patient even if I am so stubborn sometimes. He goes to Catholic church with me even if he's a Baptist. He cooks food and does the chores when I am sick. He loves me more than anything in this world.
Winn and Me during our Engagement Party

It Is Good To Be Back!

Yes! I am finally back from blogging. I was really bored. I keep on thinking what's happening with my online friends. I can't even visit my friend's blog nor write my own blog. But now I am back. It will take time to visit all your blogs but I promise that I will be patient enough to read all your post.

What did I do during the time I was gone? Well, I stayed home for almost 2 weeks. I watched movies which I never expected I can watch them. I got my flu shot together with my husband. My husband and I attended a Christmas potluck in town. Thank you for the support of my husband who can't stand looking at me being bored. Now, I got my new ISP (internet service provider) and it is better than my first internet service provider. It is faster and reliable. I can do anything with it. Now, I don't have to worry about what's going on to the internet world because they are just a click away from my fingers. Thank you for visiting my blog even if I wasn't around for almost 2 weeks (December 8 to December 19). I know some of you have been patiently visiting my blog to drop entrecard (EC) and now, I will return the favor. Thank you once again!

Adobo Chicken Wings with Lemon

Adobo Chicken Wings with Lemon (without the garnish)

Since I didn't make it to the Christmas party last Sunday in Fargo, I was planning to bring Adobo Chicken Wings with Lemon on this coming Christmas potluck party in town. It is going to be my first Christmas party since I got here. Adobo is one of my favorite Filipino dish, be it pork or chicken. I think I already mastered cooking adobo since I have been cooking it for quite some time now. My husband loves it too. Sometimes I cooked it with a twist just like my Adobo Chicken Wings with Lemon.

Here's what you need:
  • chicken wings
  • 1 can of Sprite
  • 3 whole lemon (get the juice)
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1/4 white onion (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1/2 cup of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoon of Chinese 5-spice powder
  • ground pepper
  • iodized salt or sea salt
  • spring onions

Adobo Chicken Wings with Lemon (with the spring onions and sweet onions garnish)

Procedure:
  • Marinate the chicken wings with 1 can of sprite and lemon juice overnight. Sprinkle ground pepper and salt to add more taste. You can also add 1 tablespoon of Chinese 5-spice powder but optional.
  • Heat pan with a mixture of olive oil and canola oil. Saute garlic and onion then put the marinated chicken wings. Let it simmer for 5 minutes. Sprinkle ground pepper and salt to taste.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 1/2 cup of soy sauce. Note: for the soy sauce, you can add more according to your taste.
  • Let it simmer for another 5 minutes then add 2 tablespoon of Chinese 5-spice powder and mix it all. Let it boil until the chicken meat is done. Turn off the fire and you can add the spring onions after boiling.
  • Or simply add spring onions on top before you serve them. You can garnish sliced lemons on top of the chicken wings.

No Longer in Service

Today, the 8th of December, my internet service will no longer be active together with cellular phone. This means to say that I will be absent for a few days blogging and visiting your blog. It will not take a long time for me to be away. I just need to secure another internet service for me to continue blogging and doing my thing over the internet. Of course, internet is one of the ways I communicate with my family back home and my friends online. I wish it will not take too many days before I will be active again here.

For now, I am leaving you a message so you will know about the notice. But I will be back. I promise to visit your blog as soon as my internet service is active again. I will take time to drop you an EC and read your blogs when I get back. When I get back, I will have my new internet service provider, a new phone and a new phone number. Thank you very much and happy blogging!

Below 10 Degrees

Standing on a frozen lake

I didn't go to the Christmas party. It was freezing 7 degrees early this morning when I woke up around 6:30. Maria called me around 8:30AM and told me that she will not go because of the weather. It was snowing the whole day. If we will drive for an hour and a half going to Fargo, it would be hard for us because of the short distance visibility. It was all white and foggy. So, Winn and I decided to go to church around 10:30AM.

Some people enjoying ice fishing

After the mass, we went to Pipestem Dam where there's a big frozen lake. I couldn't imagine standing on a frozen lake and the snow are falling. It was windy at that time and the snow was blowing to my face. We saw few people enjoying their ice fishing. My husband said that he wants to try ice fishing before the winter time is over. After playing and walking in the snow for a little bit, we went home and had a great meal.

Are You Ready for an Adventure?

It was in my Elementary years when I first experienced my first adventure. I was a Girl Scout back home. In my early years, I experienced how to survive away from home. There is a time that we made a fire out of bamboo and cooked eggs in a paper bag. It was tough. I learned self-discipline, being courteous, being obedient and hard work. I also enjoyed hiking in the mountains, the river and the falls. I always told myself that I should always be ready for everything, even just for small things. From then on, I have had few wonderful memories of my adventures. I love the outdoors!

How about you? Do you love outdoor adventure? Are you ready for it? If you like outdoor adventures, then check out Sierra Adventure Gear. It has all your needs for your fun outdoor adventure from bags, backpack, camping cookware, camping tools, emergency and first aids, sleeping gear, outdoor lighter and navigation, flashlight, tents, watches and many more. What Will I Do?

After calling the customer service of both my cellular phone and internet service, I have been thinking what will I do after they will cut the service on the 8th of December . I will have no phone and my internet days are over for a while. My friends can still reach me through the land line phone number I gave them. And I wonder what's the feeling of not having a cellphone for a few days, maybe a month or so. I don't know yet.

We didn't know that our contract from our previous service provider was over when the biggest telecommunication company bought them. We could have change another service provider if we just knew about it. Maybe because we are just too busy about moving last year and this year, we have moved again. Yesterday, we are so lucky to get some information that we can cancel and change the service if it is not giving us a good quality service. I have been complaining to my husband that the signal of both my cellular phone and internet service was a mess. Sometimes, I couldn't even log in to my blog or read my e-mails. I might be busy doing the chores while I am waiting for my new internet service and I am already thinking what would be my next phone look like. I can't wait and I am getting excited about it! See you around...

Movie - The Little Rascals

Anyone of you who watched the movie The Little Rascals? It was a 1994 comedy film produced by Amblin Entertainment, and released by Universal Pictures. The film is an adaptation of Hal Roach's Our Gang which centered around the adventures of a group of neighborhood children. It was later broadcast on television as The Little Rascals.

It was shown earlier today in HBO. My husband saw this film several times and it was so surprising that he knew all the characters in the film. He even knew the name of the neighborhood dog - Petey. I was laughing when I was watching the entire movie. It was really entertaining.

I Am Tired!

After spending my whole time cleaning our house, I have been feeling restless and helpless. I was thinking to take a break this time since I am already finished cleaning and making things organized in our kitchen. It was such a relief when everything you see is clean and arranged. I felt like I did a very good job. I cleaned the refrigerator, the cabinets, coffee maker, toaster, stove and oven, washed the dishes and utensils and even clean the microwave. Groceries are organized too and in proper places.

For now, I don't have to worry about a messy kitchen and a dirty bathroom. They are all clean and that's the first thing I would ever clean in our house. Now that everything is in order, let me watch movies and relax. Happy blogging!

Snowy Sunday

Last night, it snowed. There was enough snowfalls to cover the ground. When I woke up this morning at 9:15 AM, I was still feeling sleepy and tired. I was thinking to just go back to bed and sleep more. But it didn't happen. Instead, I gave my husband a good morning kiss to let him know that I am already awake. I went to the bathroom and took a shower. I only have 30 minutes to prepare myself to see and visit my Father's house.

My car and the husband's truck was covered with snow. It looked like, we got a lot of snow last night. From the window, it looked like we had 10 inches of snow. I am feeling cold and freezing. Steam coming out from my mouth. It looked like I am smoking pipe. The snow were scraped from the road by the road graders so cars and trucks can run smooth. Pretty much, we had a freezing and snowy Sunday. We stayed home after the church and watched movies.

Happy Thanksgiving!

zwani.com myspace graphic comments

For this time a year, I am celebrating my 2nd Thanksgiving Day with my husband here in the United States. Supposedly, celebrating our 3rd Thanksgiving Day (1st Thanksgiving Day was in the Philippines - 2006). Today, we are not going to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family side, instead we will just celebrate it together in the restaurant. We already made our reservations for tonight and I am pretty sure this will be a romantic Thanksgiving celebration.

We thank God for all the blessings and for the good health. We thank God for our wonderful relationship, with the love we always share with each other and for all the sweet moments we always have everyday. For all my friends, I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving Day! Enjoy the turkey!

Making a Difference for Our Heroes

They have fought and saved lives. They have been away from their families for a long time. They have missed celebrating special occasions - loved ones birthdays, wedding anniversary, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and even New Year's celebration with their own families. While I was growing up, I experienced that my father who's a soldier by profession wasn't there to be with us. He also missed celebrating special occasions with his family because he had to stay and do his job. That's one big sacrifice you can't take away from him.

Our heroes, the United States Military have to be prepared to sacrifice everything to ensure the freedom of all American people. It's really hard for some families who will celebrate holiday season with incomplete family members. Just like my old friend who's wishing that her husband would come home and celebrate the holidays with her and their little daughter. This holiday season, Sears organized its Heroes at Home program to render support and fulfill wishes to military service members, veterans and their families for all the sacrifices they make. It is called Sears Heroes at Home Wish Registry . It's one way of saying thank you for all our heroes. By making a difference, you can donate any amount to help our heroes' families and Sears will distribute the donations in the form of making necessary repairs, improvement and rebuilding the homes of military families facing hardship and those who are in need this holiday season. Help them realize that wishes do come true. Donate now and give our heroes and their families the help they really deserve. Your donations to the Wish Registry are not tax deductible. Sears will distribute the donations equally to all registered military families in the form of gift cards. Let's pray for their good health and that they are safe coming home to the ones they love so dearly.

What Part of Thanksgiving Are You?

You Are The Stuffing

You're complicated and complex, yet all your pieces fit together.

People miss you if you're gone - but they're not sure why.

Pre-Thanksgiving Day Sale at Sears!

So, what am I doing before Turkey Day? This question makes me think of so many things. Since we came home from Kentucky, my consciousness had stopped for a little bit. It seems that I have to keep all my energy as I will be helping my husband to unload all the things and start unpacking. Our new place is calling for some cleaning and fixing. My mind is nowhere to be found and I need to get back to myself to keep things organize. I need to do something productive before the Turkey Day!

It feels like all the great deals you can find will be after Thanksgiving Day. With prices which are drastically reduced and great deals are everywhere. What about great deals before Thanksgiving Day? It takes some magnificent deals to push some people out of their bed and be out into blistering cold parking lots to camp and wait for hours. It is time to uplift the spirits of the people! And it's time for the Sears Pre-Thanksgiving Sale!

It would be nice to have something new in the kitchen in our new place. Since all Kenmore cookware, bake ware and kitchen appliances, grills are on sale! Of course, I would love to have all of them but since we can't afford everything, I rather get something that will help me a lot - a dishwasher! A perfect gift for me! Since organizing the house will be all me, I can run into my dishwasher to clean all the dishes while I am taking care of the other chores. Great deals and great savings!

I Need a Break!

After we got home 5 days ago, I felt like I am restless here. I know I should be happy because we are home before the blizzard gets on our way. We got home fine and safe. I was able to meet some Filipina friends I met in church. My husband and I experienced the first Filipina gathering last Saturday and it went well. The lakes are starting to get frozen. Pheasant hunters are on the move to hunt. They are everywhere. There were so many pheasants along the highway when we were going to South Dakota. My husband's truck almost hit one male pheasants while it was flying across the road. If it did, we had a great feast!

After the gathering, we went home and stayed home since then. It was very cold outside. I stayed in bed the whole day for 3 days while watching TV and at the same time doing my thing over the internet. I eat and drink in our bed. The only time I would get up is when the time nature calls for it. I am all lazy! Everything is not set-up yet. I should have at least some energy to start unpacking our things. My husband invited me to go to the mall to buy something but I said I don't want to go out. I should be glad when he's inviting me to go to the mall because he knows I love going to the mall and it is very rare that my husband said that because he hates being in the mall because of the crowd. Maybe after Thanksgiving I am all well and will have the energy and ready for the Black Friday shopping!

Be Thankful for the Blessings

Since Thanksgiving Day is fast approaching, I posted this thank you prayer for all the blessings that God has given me all through the years. I grabbed this tag from Jerlalou's blog. Thank you for posting this girl. It will remind me to be thankful everyday.

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don't know something

Some Helpful Thoughts

Some helpful thoughts when a friendship gone wrong:

Offer encouragement and praise when something goes right for your friend, but whatever you do, don't hide your happiness for what is going right in your life. A true friend supports at all times and should be happy for your accomplishments.

Realize that jealousy can be the root of many evil behaviors/painful thoughts and even ruin a person. Everyone can feel jealous once in awhile but if it is always present and bothering you should seek help immediately. If you feel like you are doing strange, out of character things: spying, checking the person's web page 24/7, asking around the person's whereabouts, trying hard to compete with someone, then you might be in the state of "JEALOUSY". It can be agony and you need to talk to someone about your problem.

You might be a fun, beautiful person that people are jealous of. Too bad. Let them. You won't serve yourself any better by catering to their hate.

When someone is envious of you, it means that you have something they want. If you want to help them and they seem nice and worth the effort, offer to tell them where you got that shirt or those shoes. Tell them how you stay positive.

Empowering them is a good way to diffuse their jealousy, but only do this for those people you feel are worthy of your time and energy. Ignore the others

Their jealousy is a mask for insecurity. Once you recognize there's nothing behind the veneer, you'll be fine. You have the right as a person to be in a stable HEALTHY friendship. Choose to do so.

Jealous people will try to bring you down to their level. Don't let them. You don't have to be in a abusive friendship with anyone!

If your friend is always jealous for no reason, accusing you of false activities, than you may be in trouble. Extreme jealousy can lead to very dangerous behavior. If you are not sure if your friend is mentally stable-be very careful. Stay safe and protect yourself. Don't make fun of them just reassure them that you care about them. Consider getting out of the friendship slowly and over

You have the right to end any conversation with a person who puts you down or is nasty in anyway.

Free Trip to New Zealand

Traveling is one thing I have always wanted. It has been a dream since I was a little kid. When I travel, I always make sure that I have a list of the things I bring with me. From the number of clothes and underwear I will wear during the trip, shoes and flip flops, complete toiletries, and some personal things. My sister and I helped each other to gather all the photos we have taken during our trip, including the plane tickets, labeled table napkins, brochures and some souvenirs. We tried making a wonderful scrap book when we had our first out-of-the-country trip in Hong Kong, China.

My husband has always dream of going to New Zealand. He wanted to explore the beautiful mountains, see the endemic flightless bird - kiwi, marine resources and the history and culture of the country. The good news is, Air New Zealand and Larry the Travel Guy will present a free trip to New Zealand for two. This is the chance to grant my husband's dream. It would be more exciting as we get to know more of Larry the Travel Guy and at the same time get to see the beautiful island country of New Zealand. We want to visit the Auckland as it is the center of economic and business district. For sure, after visiting the wonders in New Zealand, a great scrap book with a creative blog will follow.

Pampered Toes

Since it's Winter time, I gathered all my long socks that will keep my toes warm during the entire winter season. My toes are the first one that easily gets cold. I made sure that my socks are ready especially when it snows. Last year was my first winter and first experience of real snow. What I do is put and rub petroleum jelly all over my feet to make it soft and also to keep me warm during the season.

Last week, I found this cute toe socks in Wal-Mart and I bought 2 pairs. I put it on and needed some assistance from the husband since I have a big toes. Luckily the toe socks fit me right and my toes feel warm and comfortable.

Eyes of the Beholder

For some reasons this past few weeks, I just can't go out without my lip gloss and eyeliner in me. I always put make-up on if I am not lazy or not running out of time. I manage to do a little bit of experimental on my face whenever I can and it will always turn out alright. I am not a professional make-up artist. I just try to be myself and look good on make-ups I had.

Just recently, after we were invited to a birthday party of 3 lovely women, the husband told me that I looked like his buddy "the bandit" from the woods. I didn't understand him at first on what he's talking about until he's laughing so hard and telling me to face the mirror in the bathroom. Oh my Zeus! I looked like a sad raccoon! The eyeliner make-up were scattered all around my eyes! I laughed at myself too. I didn't know I made a mess around my eyes when I had to scratch the itchy corner and turned out to be a bandit like the raccoon. Next time, I will use a mirror whenever I have to ease the itch around my eyes and will never do it at dark.
