Away From Home

I took this picture when we went skiing last February 7. As you all know, North Dakota has a harsh winter. I wonder how the animals such as deer, rabbits and birds get their food. How can they survive winter here in North Dakota if they have nothing to eat? Just like the poor Bambi in the picture, he/she was away from home and away from his/her mother. This is just something to think about.

Maple-Garlic Chicken

Last Valentine's Day, I surprised my hubby as special recipe. I saw the recipe at Rowena's Thought blog. She got the recipe at Kusina ni Manang. The recipe was a hit! It is so tasty and we like it very much. It is also easy to prepare. I will post the ingredients and procedure here for those who want to try this delicious Maple-Garlic Chicken.

Ingedients:
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1.5 pounds chicken pieces
Procedure:
  • Place chicken pieces in the saucepan. Mix well the rest of the ingredients and pour onto the chickens.
  • Boil, then lower heat to medium low and cook for 15 minutes. During the last 5 minutes, start heating up your oven - in broil method.
  • Arrange your chicken pieces on a pan and place the sauce in a small saucepan. Broil chicken for 5 minutes to dry the surfaces.
  • Meanwhile, thicken the sauce with cornstarch and water mix to the desired consistency and adjust the taste as needed with salt and pepper.
  • Baste the chicken pieces to give them a glaze and repeat after 2 minutes, then cook further about 2 minutes. Turn over the chicken peices and do the same. When serving, pour some sauce onto the chicken pieces.
This recipe goes well with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. The leftover sauce if any, will be perfect to flavor your fried rice. For my rice, I put a hot cream of mushroom on top of my steamed rice. Trust me, you will love this recipe!

Marriage Proposal

I want to thank Amiable Amy for tagging me. I can still remember how my husband proposed marriage to me. Trust me, you don't want to know every details of it. But I will still share some details on how he proposed to me. The night of his arrival, he hand me down his mother's ring. It wasn't actually the real engagement ring with a tiny sparkling diamond. I was surprised by his gesture!

He talked to my mom the next morning. I was giggling while he was talking to my mother and sister. He was nervous and tense. He couldn't even finished what he wanted to say. The second time he came to visit me, he proposed again for the second time putting the engagement ring on my finger. Then we traveled to my hometown (Zamboanga City) to visit my family and friends.

We organized a mini engagement party for family and friends to let everybody know that we are getting married. And for the third time, with my family and friends, including my high school teachers, classmates in high school and college as our witnesses, he proposed in front of them! Being with my husband was full of fun and surprises and I must say that I am one lucky-spoiled wife of his.

Show Me Your I.D.

How would you react when someone ask for you identification? I was feeling excited on our Valentine's date when my hubby decided to eat dinner at Red Lobster. Since, it's Heart's Day, I thought I could order something unique than the usual drinks I always ordered. So I decided to order a cocktail drink for me - Mango Mai Tai.

I told our server that I don't want a heavy drink and so she suggested so many things and came up with a good one. She asked for my I.D. to check my age! She said, I don't look 21 years old and she was surprised after looking at my driver's license that I am indeed 26 years old. I took it as a compliment. After all, I still look young! My mai tai wasn't bad at all. I really liked the taste! I enjoyed sipping it!

Addicted To Facebook?

Do you have a Facebook account? This is the reason why I am sometimes not been updating my blog for how many days. I have been to Facebook lately and I am hooked with their games - Scrabble. I have my friends there too. I must admit that I nearly abandoned some social networking websites but never ever will I abandon my blogging career (if there's any) because I still love to blog and share with you everything.

I hope I am still in your blog roll. I promise that if I get back to my senses, I will visit your blog, drop EC and leave some comments to your post. Thank you for my readers who supported me all the time. You know who you are girls! I owe you big time already. So, just bear with me for the moment.

10 Warning Signs That You May Be Addicted To Facebook:

1. Facebook is your home page.

2. You update your status more than twice a day.

3. You have over 500 "friends" half of whom you've never actually met.

4. As soon as you step away from your computer you're on FB on your phone.

5. You are a FB stalker. You qualify as a FB stalker if you

a) click on someone's profile more than once a day even if they haven't messaged or tagged you in a photo.

b) have dragged and dropped more than 3 FB photos (not from your own profile)

c) actually go to a place mentioned on someone's page in hopes of seeing them in real life...creepy!

6. You change your profile picture more than a 12-year=old girl.

7. You have checked your FB page while reading this article.

8. You clean up your "wall" so it looks like you spend less time on FB.

9. You are a member of more than 10 groups and respond to every event invitation "attending" even if you have no intention of going.

10. You change your relationship status just to mess with people.

The 10 warnings signs were according to Tara Stiles. I got it from Yahoo News. Why I joined Facebook? It is easier to access than any other social networking websites. So, if you have a Facebook account, do add me and let's meet from there. Thank you!

Dandruff Free

I stopped the itch! I am dandruff free for weeks now. I am happy to spread the good news! The stubborn dandruff keeps coming back when it's winter time and I just hate it! I have tried different brands of shampoo and only two brands of shampoo helped me.

I have been using Head and Shoulders back home and I don't have any problems with dandruff keeps coming back. It protects and conditioned my hair. I will no longer use different brands of shampoo and conditioner. This is my shampoo and conditioner. The best I ever have!

Heart's Day Celebration

We had a blast! We celebrated our Valentine's Day two days prior to the actual date, February 14. We had breakfast at Ihop. We ordered the "all you can eat pancake". We stuffed ourselves for the day. We had so much fun. We went to the mall for a little shopping. I got myself a new purse and I loved it!

I didn't get any flowers. I am all happy for the shopping spree that my husband gave me. I told him that flowers are good but I am all set with shopping. I like it better that way. I guess, I am one of the girls who didn't get any flowers on Valentine's Day. After shopping, we had dinner at Red Lobster, our favorite seafood restaurant.

Friday The 13th

It's Friday the 13th! It is a superstition about a day of good or bad luck. Some people will say that the number 13 is a lucky number but some will say that it also brings bad luck to anyone. Do you believe in this statement? Some people may believe it and some are not. We should not forget to always pray and thank God above all.

We are suppose to go skiing and snowboarding today but the husband said it is Friday the 13th. He said, he's not really a superstitious person but he doesn't want to push his luck for this day. Well, there will always be next time, right?

Sports Car Tag

I got a Sporty Tag from Rose's Obstacles and Glories. Her question was, If you can afford to buy a sports car right now, what are you going to get?

My pick? If I can afford to buy a sports car right now, I will get the one that I have been wanting for quite some time now - the Corvette ZR1. It's not that very expensive compare to other luxurious sports car but I just like the design of this car.

The ZR1 was formally announced in a December 2007 press statement by General Motors, where it was revealed that their target of 100 horsepower/liter (1.64 hp/cu in) has been reached by a new "LS9" engine, an Eaton- supercharged 6.2-liter engine producing a confirmed 638 hp (476 kW) and 604 foot-pounds force (819 N·m) of torque with a sticker price of about US $100,000. The engine is the most powerful engine to be put in an American production sports car.

Top speed is 205 mph (330 km/h). Along with an improved motor, the ZR1 also comes with extensive carbon-fiber body parts, including (but not limited to) wider fenders, the hood, roof panel, roof bow, front fascia splitter and rocker moldings. However, the car is heavier and more front weight biased than the Z06 because of the supercharger, with a weight distribution of 52% at the front and 48% at the rear. Tires were also increased in diameter and width, along with bigger and stronger brakes, adjustable suspension, and optional chrome wheels and a premium interior package.

Sore All Over

My body is sore all over! I cannot stretch my arms and legs as much as I want to because it hurts me a lot. I guess this is the punishment I got from enjoying snow skiing yesterday. I have been whining about my aches and pains all to my hubby all morning. I am sure that there will be more whining for the rest of the day and tomorrow.

I woke up late today (no doubt about it) because of the pain I am feeling all over my body. My shoulders, arms, lower back, thighs and legs were all in pain. I even sprained my right thumb and I have a broken thumbnail. It really hurts but I had a blast. I will no longer be ignorant about snow skiing because I have tried it and enjoyed every bit of it.

Snow Skiing at Fort Ransom

At last! I finally got my wish! I haven't been around for two days now - blog hopping and dropping EC because I got busy and occupied with my wish. Yesterday was fun too. I got to meet some friends in a birthday party. I woke up early today really excited. I can't even wait to put on my ski suit and rush my hubby to take me to Bears Den Mountain Ski Resort at Fort Ransom.

When we got there, there were many people enjoying skiing, snow boarding and snow mobiling around the resort. I was very feeling anxious to step down the slopes because this will be my first time. A wonderful experience for me since I have lived 25 years of my life without this kind of winter activity. I enjoyed snow skiing and it was indeed a great experience!

Make Me Choose!

I can't make a right decision! A friend I met 4 months ago is inviting me to go to a birthday party tomorrow. I am choosing between snow skiing or the birthday party tomorrow. She called me twice today and still I haven't decided anything yet.

The husband told me that if I want to go and attend the birthday party, we can just move the snow skiing on the next day which is on Saturday. I agreed to his idea without ruining the entire plan. Besides, we have been planning this for the whole week. Whatever my decision will be at the end of the day, my wish will still happen on Saturday!

Excited For The Weekend!

I haven't been around much in blogging for the past few days. The husband and I were enjoying driving around town enjoying the nice weather for couple of days. The temperature was above freezing! Imagine staying home the entire 2 months keeping ourselves warm. It was really depressing. We just love to enjoy nice weather and have fun.

For this coming Friday or this weekend, I might get my wish! I would love to try one of the winter activities which is snow skiing. I can't wait any longer! I wish the weather will cooperate with me and let me enjoy snow skiing in a nice weather.

Oxtail Stew in Peanut Butter Sauce

I have been looking for an oxtail meat for weeks now. I couldn't find them at Wal-Mart where we usually shop for groceries. Last Thursday, we went to Valley City to find the oxtail meat. We got lucky that they have it and bought 2 packs. Kare-Kare is one of my favorite Filipino dish.

Name of the Recipe: Oxtail Stew in Peanut Butter Sauce (Kare-Kare)

Ingredients:
  • 1 pack of oxtail or beef stew meat
  • 1 pouch Mama Sita's Peanut Sauce (Kare-Kare) Mix, dissolved in 1 cup broth
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • pechay or bokchoy
  • sitaw or long green beans (I used green beans), cut into 2 inches length
  • 8 cups of water
  • banana blossom
  • 1 tablespoon of sliced onion
  • sliced eggplant
  • bagoong gata or sauteed shrimp paste
Procedure:
  • Boil oxtail in water. Lower heat and simmer until meat is tender leaving about 1 1/2 cups broth
  • In a heavy saucepan, saute garlic and onion in oil. Add oxtail, stir fry and pour in dissolved Mama Sita's Kare-Kare Mix. Add the remaining broth.
  • Stir and simmer until sauce thickens, then add the eggplant and sitaw or green beans. Simmer for 3 minutes, more stirring occasionally.
  • Lastly, add pechay or bokchoy and simmer for 2 minutes or until vegetables are done. Serve hot with rice and shrimp paste.
Note: I didn't add eggplant in my Kare-Kare. Banana blossom is not available so it is up to you what vegetable you have.

Sensational Beads

Collecting gems and beads are just one of my hobbies. I was hook when I was in college. They are just comfortable to wear whenever I go to a dinner date or simply have fun with my girl friends. A bead is a small, decorative object that is pierced for threading or stringing. Beads range in size from under a millimeter to over a centimeter or sometimes several centimeters in diameter.

If you enjoy beadwork as a hobby, Foxy Findings brings you the best of both worlds in beading and jewelry making. You can get liquidation pricing on beading supplies, gemstones, tools and your entire jewelry making and beading needs.

To support our jewelry makers and beaders in these tough times we have opened a new beading liquidation and overstock center on FoxyFindings.com. Many sites force you to buy large quantities to get the best price, but at Foxy you always get the best price whether you buy one item or 100 items.

Hello February!

zwani.com myspace graphic comments

The month of hearts! We started the first day of February attending the 10:30AM mass at Saint James Basilica. It is just lovely to start the first day of the month praising and thanking God for all the wonderful blessings. After visiting the church, the husband and I drove around the neighboring town - Spiritwood. All we could see were fields of snow. Everything is white! We went back to the reservoir for a chance to see people who enjoys snow mobiling but we saw very few. The husband and I are looking forward to ride one before winter ends. We should enjoy the remaining wintertime since we are always stuck inside the house. For the past 2 days, the weather was great. The temperature was above freezing. I still hope to get my wish this coming Friday.
